It is not often that you encounter a person who touches you in such a powerful way that it forever changes your life. When you were introduced to that person, something inside of you moved. As you interact with that person over time, a spirit that is full of joy, courage, dedication, compassion, and faith is exemplified in every interaction.
For the 2008 Class of Leadership Kentucky, Dr. Lisa Murrell was that person! She presented a spirit that latched onto the heart of every member of the class. “Her presence inspired us and challenged us to look inside ourselves at what is most important and matters the most even in the world of leaders. What matters is the relationship. Our relationships as classmates, friends, business associates, and for some, our faith is all that matters. To have such a spirit requires a discipline that is special. When you are disciplined in this manner, you are mentally capable of exemplifying the fruits of the spirit that the creator speaks of: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. When we possess this spirit, the trials and tribulations of everyday life we encounter will no longer have the same effect on us. We will have much better self-control of our life and how we live it.”
This award was established the 29th day of June, 2011 and is given to honor her and is to be given at future graduations to the person in the class who most exemplifies Lisa’s spirit: courage, compassion, selflessness, and inspiration over the course of your Leadership KY experience.
