The Leadership Kentucky Class of 2017 re-united in Louisville, Kentucky for its second session of the year. With a packed schedule and great weather, we had an amazing time exploring the city and participating in the Kentucky Chamber’s Business Summit and Annual Meeting.

Day 1: We kicked off our first afternoon together by touring Flavorman and Distilled Spirits Epicenter with founder David Dafoe. Dave created a company that specializes in the technical side of beverage development. We got to sample slushies, Kentucky Derby liquor, and do a taste test with Jones soda. Next, we visited Moonshine University, a division of Flavorman focused on offering technical training and business management education for start-ups, industry professionals and those looking for careers in the distilling industry. After, we popped over to tour the Muhammad Ali Center before ending the night with hors d’oeuvres at Bill Samuels of Maker’s Mark house. We enjoyed dipping our own bottle of Maker’s in the red wax and visiting with Bill Samuels and his wife, Nancy.

Day 2: With an early start to the day, we arrived at Churchill Downs in time to tour the backside and enjoyed breakfast in the Track Kitchen. A tour of the KY Derby Museum followed and featured a viewing of “The Greatest Race” video. The walking tour of Churchill Downs ended in the Turf Club with a Q & A session with Kevin Flanery, President of Churchill Downs Race Track. For lunch, Barry Denton (Current Class Member) hosted us at Masonic Homes of Kentucky and featured guest speaker Tori McClure, President of Spalding University. Finally, we ended the day participating in the Kentucky Chamber’s Business Summit and Annual Meeting which featured speakers like: Global Futurist Jack Uldrich, UPS Airlines President Brendan Canavan, Adam Edelen, Scott Jennings, Mark Halpering and Carl Bernstein.

Day 3: We continued to participate in the Kentucky Chamber Business Summit. This day featured speakers like Bill Lear, Dave Adkisson, Rusty Justice of BitSource, Doug Bowling, Kurt Krug, Dave Tatman and Garvin Brown IV of Brown-Forman Corporation. We concluded our session in Louisville as a group discussing leadership lessons learned.

The Class of 2017 will meet again in Maysville on August 9-11.
