The Leadership Kentucky Class of 2017 met for its third session of the year in beautiful and historic Maysville, Kentucky on Wednesday, August 9th. Maysville is the home of Rosemary Clooney, Miss America 2000 Heather French Henry and UK Basketball Player gone NBA pro Darius Miller. The session tile: "Leveraging Local Resources."
Wednesday night kicked off the session with a reception at Kentucky Gateway Museum Center featuring the Miniatures Collection. Following a brief welcome and introduction by the Mayor of Maysville, dinner was held at the Cox Building with speakers John Klee, History Professor, Maysville Community & Technical College and John Pogue, Old Pogue Distillery. Following dinner, the class members were free to explore downtown Maysville or learn more about the historic and beautiful The Russell Theatre.
Thursday, August 10
The class got an early start to the day with breakfast at the hotel, The French Quarter Inn with breakfast speaker Mike Denham, Executive V.P. & Cashier, Bank of Maysville and LKY graduate. Next, we visited Carmeuse Lime and Stone and went over 920 feet underground to tour an active Limestone mine. After a 4 minute elevator ride, the class hoped on a wagon and explored the underground tunnels totaling nearly 700 miles. We had lunch at Caproni's on the River with lunch speaker Thomas L. Woosley Manager, Maysville Division, Crounse Corporation about “Barge Traffic & Economic Impact."
Thursday afternoon was spent touring the East Kentucky Power Plant and International Paper, a recycled paper mill.
Rain prevented us from visiting the Goddard Covered Bridge, so dinner was held at the Washington Opera House with a fantastic farm to table dinner, live music and dancing. Our guest speakers were:

Heather French Henry, Deputy Commissioner, Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs
Friday, August 11
On our final day in Maysville, we enjoyed breakfast at Chandler’s Too with guest speaker Orloff Miller, “The House That Hemp Built” who then led the group on a Historic Walking Tour of Maysville. After, we enjoyed a Leadership Kentucky Class Panel on Natural Resources/Energy featuring these class members:

Rich Pewitt, Cumberland Valley RECC
Paul Weis, LG&E / KU
Finally, we concluded the session with “Call Before You Dig!” by Tim Vaughn, Executive Director, Kentucky 811 and a visit from Columbia Gas of Kentucky.
We had an amazing time in Maysville and enjoyed the opportunity to explore and learn about downtown and be right on the Ohio River. Thank you Maysville! Next stop: Frankfort and Georgetown from September 13th-15th!
