On June 1st, 2017, which was Kentucky’s 225th birthday, New Executives to the state of Kentucky flocked to Frankfort for Leadership Kentucky’s fourth annual New Executives event. This one-day, free of charge, event is a day of signature Kentucky experiences and thought provoking discussions about the exciting opportunities our state has to offer for senior level executives who have been in the state for less than two years.
THANK YOU to our Corporate Partners: US Bank, LG&E-KU, Stites & Harbison, UK Healthcare, Anthem BlueCross BlueShield and Kentucky Proud. Thank you to our hospitality partners: Country Boy Brewing, Kentucky Wine Council, Pin Oak Stud, Kentucky Distillers’ Association, Horse Country and Jeptha Creed.
The day started out with a video introduction from Governor Matthew Bevin in the State Capitol Annex. Secretary Terry Gill of the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development followed and discussed the work force and economics in Kentucky. Next up, Amy Potts form the Kentucky Department of Tourism discussed the importance of tourism in Kentucky and how we can celebrate the 225 years of being a state. Next up, Beth Davisson from the Kentucky Chamber Workforce Center, touched on the development of a workforce in Kentucky.
Taking a break from speakers, the New Executives boarded a bus and toured Woodford Reserve Distillery and enjoyed a bourbon tasting and lunch at Woodford Reserve. With full bellies, the next stop was Pin Oak Stud in Versailles, KY. The New Executives had the opportunity to pet the baby horses and mares and learn more about breeding, racing and the thoroughbred industry in Kentucky.
Next, the group got a tour of the State Capitol and heard from Trudi Matthews at UK Healthcare and about Education Initiatives from Secretary Hal Heiner. Finally, David Byerman from the Kentucky Legislative Research Commission informed us of how to access state government leadership.
The day ended with a reception in the Governor’s Mansion followed by dinner with keynote speaker David Adkisson from the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.
It was a beautiful day full of Kentucky experiences, networking and fun! We’re already looking forward to next year’s New Executives to Kentucky event. Thank you to all who attended and made this day possible.
