September 9th was a beautiful day for the Leadership Kentucky 40th Anniversary Golf Outing presented by LG&E/KU. Fifty-two golfers hit the links at EKU’s University Club at Arlington to raise money to support scholarships for future Leadership Kentucky participants, with specific focus on expanding diversity.
Players, LKY alumni, and guests then enjoyed a lovely dinner in the Black Box Theatre at EKU’s Center for the Arts. LKY Board Chair Ron Wilson welcomed attendees and shared information on the 40-year history of Leadership Kentucky, as well as how alumni can stay connected and engaged to move Kentucky forward. John Bevington, a member of the LKY Class of ’23 and Senior Director of Business and Economic Development for PPL Corporation, the parent company of LG&E/KU, our generous presenting sponsor for the golf outing, also shared his organization’s commitment to community and the importance of programs like Leadership Kentucky.
Co-chairs Jeremy Jarvi and Abbie Gilbert, LKY Class of 2023 alums, shared the background of the golf outing and how it came to fruition before recognizing the big winners of the day. The team representing RJ Corman Railroad Group with John Cox, John Hampton, Adam Meyer, and Luke Taylor took the top spot at 13 under on the day. The YMCA foursome with Chris Francis, Jason Beasley, John Heather, and Eric Sanford came in second place with 12 under par. Closest to the Pin winners were golfers Dan Bork and Terry Heeter with the Longest Drive being struck by Greg Way.
Closing out the evening was keynote speaker A.W. Hamilton, coach of the EKU Men’s Basketball team. He led EKU to the 2023-24 Atlantic Sun Conference Regular Season Championship. It was the first regular season conference title for the Colonels in 45 years (1979) and the seventh in program history. Coach Hamilton talked with guests about winning the wait and maintain a “one more” mentality.
It truly was an amazing day for Leadership Kentucky that raised more than $40,000 that will ensure that future classes reflect the rich makeup of the Commonwealth and its geographic, racial, occupational and economic diversity.
