BRIGHT 2019 visited the Big Sandy Region (Pikeville, Prestonsburg, Paintsville) in early September. The cohort spent time hearing about UPIKE and their collaboration with Pikeville Medical Center. They visited the home place of Loretta Lynn, Stone Crest Golf Course (reclaimed mine), and Pikeville Medical Center. The session ended with attendance at the SOAR Summit. 

The Leadership Kentucky Class of 2019 recently visited Western Kentucky. The Class toured three Alliance Coal Mines: River View, Elk Creek, and Warrior. A visit to Eddyville and the Kentucky State Penitentiary followed. The session ended at Lake Barkley State Park.

BRIGHT, a Leadership Kentucky program designed for Eastern Kentuckians, met for the first time in Campton, Kentucky. BRIGHT Kentucky is made possible by a $500,000 ARC grant and private funding from the Whitaker Foundation, SOAR and others.  

Leadership Kentucky, currently celebrating its 35th anniversary, is proud to announce the members of the inaugural BRIGHT Kentucky Class of 2019. This year’s class includes 50 participants from 29 different ARC counties representing a variety of public and private sectors. Congratulations to these great leaders!

The Elevate Kentucky Class of 2019 recently graduated in Frankfort, Ky. after traveling the state, networking, and growing as leaders over the last three months.

Gov. Matt Bevin’s office today announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has approved a $500,000 grant for the Leadership Kentucky Foundation to help create a new leadership program targeting young professionals in the Kentucky Appalachian corridor, named BRIGHT Kentucky. BRIGHT Kentucky is made possible by the ARC grant and private funding from the Whitaker Foundation and others.
